Women's Rights during the Mid 19th century

Politics

In the early 1800's, women were not supposed to be involved in politics. Men believed women were too emotional and politics are the man’s work. However, women started to stand up and took part in politics. They fought against slavery, abortions, women suffrage, and government issues. They usually used media and public gatherings to show their feelings and beliefs. But they were ignored and criticized to be foolish women. Nevertheless, the women didn’t give up. They continued their movements until finally someone listen to them

On July 19, 1848 the Seneca Falls was the first convention to discuss women’s rights. At the convention, they came up with the "Declaration of the Sentiments" which was modeled after the Declaration of Independence and they demanded right to vote for women.
